Nokia’s Lumia series consists of Windows Phone devices which are competing against the duopoly of Android and iOS devices. To take them head on, Nokia has introduces various Lumia smartphones across different prices. The Lumia 925 sits comfortably at the top replacing previous Nokia’s flagship Lumia 920. Both of these smartphones are top end devices with superb hardware, display and camera. But, does the newly launched Lumia 925 really offers better features than Lumia 920 and is it worth the price difference. Let’s find out in this comparison-
External: Design and Display
The Lumia 920 has a youthful feel to it thanks to its vibrant color schemes (Yellow, Red, Black, White, etc.)and intuitive design. However, it is very bulky at 185 g and even thicker at 10.7 mm. On the contrast, Lumia 925 comes with a metallic frame at the edges giving it a robust look and feel. Though, the back is still made of plastic available in various colors, it looks much better. It also cuts down the flab with reduced weight of 130 g and slimness at 8.5 mm.
The display unit in both the devices is same with a 4.5 inch Pure Motion HD+ Clear Black AMOLED Display. The display sports resolution of 768 x 1280 pixels, translating to impressive pixel density of 334 ppi. The screen is protected against scratches and external damages by Corning Gorilla Glass. Another good feature is that the screen can be used even when the user is having gloves in their hands.
Internal: Hardware and Software
Lumia 920 and Lumia 925 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor clocked at 1.5 GHz. The processor is complemented by an Adreno 225 GPU for rendering graphics. In memory department, they’ve 16 GB/ 32 GB variants, but sadly no option for extending the memory. They also offer cloud storage of 7 GB in SkyDrive. They are fueled by a non-removable Li-ion battery of 2000 mAh giving talk-time of up to 12 hours.
As stated earlier, both the smartphones run on Windows Phone 8 OS, although Lumia 925 also comes with Amber update. This Amber update is also coming to other Lumia devices including 920 and brings several enhancements such as FM Radio, Glance Screen, etc. These devices will also get a special camera app developed by Nokia called as Nokia Pro Cam which was first shipped in Lumia 1020.
Camera and Connectivity
Both devices flaunts Pure View camera of 8.7 MP with Carl Zeiss optics. However Lumia 920 offers Dual LED flash, whereas 925 is loaded with Xenon Flash which means great shots in low light conditions as well. The camera quality is really impressive and offers tons of options such as geo-tagging, face detection, autofocus and digital image stabilization. For video chatting and self-portraits, they have a 1.2 MP front-facing camera.
They support 2G, 3G and 4G LTE network connectivity and Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi, GPS and even NFC. Lumia 920 also supports wireless charging feature, while 925 can be charged wirelessly with the help of a special cover.
Conclusion
Both the devices offer impressive display, decent hardware and superb camera. If you want a better build quality with premium look, then Lumia 925 is for you, else you’ll get all the features in Lumia 920 as well.
