Hero Impulse vs Hero Xtreme : Face 2 Face Review

Overview

The ‘Hero’ brand has many popular two-wheelers in the 150 cc segment of the Indian two-wheeler market. The most popular 150 cc products of Hero MotoCorp are the Impulse and the Xtreme. The Impulse launched in 2011 is the first Indian off-road adventure bike. Launched in 2007 the Xtreme comes in disc and the drum variants. The refreshed version of 2014 has kick and self start facilities.

Price

The Hero Impulse priced Rupees 68,800 has a digital speedometer, an analogue tachometer, two digital trip meters, a digital clock, a digital fuel gauge and a low fuel indication on the console. The Xtreme variants are priced Rupees 68,725 and 71,725.  The combo console has a digital speedometer, analogue fuel and tachometers, a trip meter, a low fuel indication and a digital clock.




Color and Design

The Impulse comes in colours of black, terra rossa, green, blue and the orange. The Xtreme comes in shades of mercuric silver, fiery red, jazz blue, panther black and magma orange. The Impulse has multi-reflector type headlights LED tail/brake lamps turn signals. The Xtreme has prism type halogen head lamps, LED tail/brake lamps and crystal turn and pass signals. The under seat mobile charger socket, a service due reminder, a dual tone muffler, a side stand indicator and an engine immobiliser with active LED ring are the exclusive features of the Xtreme.

Engine

The Impulse is powered by a 149 cc, 13 bhp, 13.06 NM torque engine with carburetor fuel system and CDI ignition. The better tuned engine of the Xtreme with same specifications develops 14.4 bhp. The xtreme has a better mileage of 65 kmpl than the 55 kmpl of the impulse with top speeds being 110 kmph for both the bikes.



Specifications

The Impulse has a semi double cradle chassis with telescopic hydraulic suspension at the front and swing arm with mono suspension with nitrox at the rear. The tubular diamond chassis of the Xtreme has telescopic hydraulic suspension at the front and rectangular swing arm with 5 step adjustable gas reservoir suspension at the rear. The ground clearance of the Xtreme is 145 mm and that of the Impulse 245 mm. The Impulse weighs 134 kg and the Xtreme 145 kg. The tyres are 90/90x19-52P at the front and 110/90x17-60P at the rear for the Impulse with 240 mm disc brake at the front and 110 mm drum at the rear. The Xtreme has 80/100x18”-47P tyres at the front and 100/90x18”-61P at the rear. The brake options are 240 mm at the front and 220 mm disc or 130 mm drum at the rear for the Xtreme.

Verdict
